With over 30 years of experience, Mike has developed a reputation as a top-notch litigator; a critical thinker, problem solver, negotiator and creative strategist.  Mike has experience in all forms of claim related events and forms of dispute resolution.  He provides and facilitates creative solutions to complex and challenging problems in order to provide prompt practical and cost-effective services to his clients.

Mike has received a peer review rating of “BV® Distinguished” (4.4. out of 5) in the Martindale-Hubbell®Directory and is consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada® in the specialty of insurance law.  Mike has experience and interest in the following areas:

  • Corporate and Commercial Litigation including contractual, commercial, governance  and shareholder disputes;
  • Products Liability and Manufacturers Liability Litigation including design and fabrication deficiencies;
  • Insurance Law including coverage issues involving all-risk property policies, commercial general liability policies, builder’s risk policies, professional liability (E&O) policies, auto policies, environmental policies, nuclear policies and director and officer liability policies;
  • Large loss property recovery and subrogation;
  • Catastrophic Personal Injury and wrongful death claims arising out of industrial accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and occupier’s liability incidents;

Profile

Mike has appeared as counsel before all levels of Court in Alberta, several other Western Canadian jurisdictions, and before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mike has presented papers and lectured on a number of litigation topics before a variety of audiences. He prides himself on his role as a teacher, coach, and mentor for many of the firm’s junior litigators. He currently sits on the firm’s Professional Development Committee.
