Pat practices in the area of corporate/commercial law generally, with an emphasis on assisting owner managed businesses with all operational matters and conducting and advising on complex domestic and international transactions, including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures for both vendors and purchasers.
Pat acts for individuals, corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, and other forms of business organizations of many types, across all demographics and sectors. His practice philosophy is to understand his clients’ business needs and provide practical and meaningful advice, using creative legal strategies to achieve his clients’ objectives. Pat is proud to have developed many great friendships among his clients over his more than 40 years at the bar, and prides himself on being able to provide his clients with advice on all aspects of their business, not merely legal alternatives.
Pat has been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in CanadaTM since 2006 in the areas of Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law. Pat was previously an instructor and evaluator for the Law Society of Alberta’s Bar Admission courses and sat on the Bar Admission Examination Review Committee for the Legal Education Society of Alberta. Pat also contributed revisions to the Alberta Corporations Law Guide published by CCH Canada Ltd. concerning the Business Corporations Act for Alberta. Early in his career, Pat was a regular speaker in the Continuing Legal Education seminars and has shared his business enterprise in private seminars with clients and interested groups on a variety of topics.
Outside of the office, Pat has been involved in numerous volunteer and charitable organizations, including the Snow Valley Ski Club, the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, as well as the Special Olympics Board of Directors in Alberta. In 1987 Pat was chairman of the National Floor Hockey Championship for Special Olympics when those games were held in Edmonton.
