Liam’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and general corporate governance. His clients include large cap and micro private equity groups, search funds, and individual business owners, as well as other established private issuers and public entities. He primarily advises them on private and public m&a transactions (including majority and minority investments), the organization of new ventures (including fund formation), the reorganization of established businesses, securities regulatory and exchange compliance, and day-to-day corporate matters.

Liam prides himself on developing and maintaining an understanding of his clients’ business environments, so that he can provide them with thoughtful and practical counsel. He is also experienced at coordinating with the Firm’s many practice groups and other external advisors, ensuring his clients receive well-rounded advice.

A former Western Hockey League player, Liam remains actively involved in the sport throughout Alberta. Prior to joining the Firm as an articling student, he spent time in the Hockey Legal Affairs department of the National Hockey League’s Vegas Golden Knights, where he worked on player contract negotiations, salary cap management, and generally all matters associated with the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement. He maintains a niche practice advising ownership groups, teams, leagues, and players on all legal issues they encounter in sport environments.

Liam is a member of the Firm’s Business Development Committee. He is also a Sessional Instructor at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law, where he teaches Securities Law alongside colleague Jason May. Outside of the office, he has volunteered his time with Project ‘Stay Onside’ for at-risk youth, and CIBC’s Read to Succeed Program.
