Mike is a well-respected senior litigator with over 40 years of experience. Known as a critical thinker, problem solver, negotiator, and creative strategist, he has experience in all forms of claim-related events and dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. He facilitates creative solutions to complex problems, providing prompt, practical and cost-effective services to his clients. His area of practice focuses on corporate commercial litigation; the intersection of corporate law, insolvency, and matrimonial property claims; construction related multi-party large loss past events; and a vast array of first party commercial insurance coverage disputes.
Mike has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in Alberta, in several other Western Canadian jurisdictions and before the Supreme Court of Canada. He has received a peer review rating of AV® Distinguished in the Martindale-Hubbell directory and has been consistently recognized by The Best Lawyers in CanadaTM in Insurance Law since 2013.
Mike has presented papers and lectured on a number of litigation topics before a variety of audiences. He prides himself on his role as a teacher, coach, and mentor for many of the firm’s junior litigators.
Mike is passionate about community sports and is a founding member of Southwest Edmonton’s first football organization (the Southwest Mustangs) started in 2007 and remains active with the organization. He has over a decade of volunteer experience coaching minor hockey, in-line hockey, football, and ball hockey. When away from the office and his volunteer activities, Mike and his wife, Cynthia, carry on an active lifestyle, participating in various sports such as golf, tennis, curling, pickleball, skiing, and swimming.
