Tim D. Smythe

Tim is a partner with Bryan & Company and is experienced in guiding both individual and institutional clients through litigation, mediation, arbitration, and a number of other alternative dispute resolution forums. He provides practical advice to his clients, helping them achieve their objectives in a prompt and cost-effective manner.

Tim has appeared in the Alberta Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench and Court of Appeal in Alberta. He has been consistently recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada^TM in both Insurance Law and Corporate and Commercial Litigation.

Tim’s particular areas of specialty include defending engineers, architects, and other design professionals in liability claims, as well as other complex multi-party construction litigation. He also has significant experience advising on liability claims arising pursuant to policies of insurance. Other areas of focus include general corporate and commercial litigation, including advising on disputes arising out of contractual relationships.

Tim currently sits on the firm’s Professional Development Committee, is a Co-Chair of the Litigation Department, and is actively involved as an advising lawyer for Student Legal Services at the University of Alberta.
